Hello 4-H photography members, this is Luke Duran. I’m the 4-H Photography project superintendent. This is my tenth year leading this program, and I’m looking forward to working with you!
I’m going to lead the photography project differently every year, so were always learning something new. We will have a series of monthly workshops, and I plan to have some of those as “in the field” photo opportunities. We will do a lot of the work at our meetings, so it should be a fun and collaborative effort. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to share your photos, because review and critique are part of what makes you a better photography.
If this will be your first year in the Photography project, I strongly recommend that you work through th 4-H Photography Project book. I’ll have some project books available for sale at our first meeting. You can order a project book on your own here: https://4-h.org/parents/curriculum/photography/
Project focus for 2024-25
This year I’d like to get back to basics and help you all to learn more about the workings of cameras. If this is your second year (or more) I the 4-H Photography project, I’m going to strongly recommend that you purchase or borrow a DSLR camera. First-year photography 4-H’ers are just fine using your smart cameras or point-and-shoot digital cameras, for but for youth that are looking to up their game and learn more about photography as a technique, we’re going to put more emphasis this year on learning and using DSLR cameras. If you need recommendations or advice on getting a DSLR camera, please visit the resources page.
We have some fun and productive workshops coming throughout the year to help you learn about the various applications of photography, and to encourage your interest and craft. And we are very fortunate to have many talented photographers and professionals who use photography that are willing to volunteer their time and share their experience and knowledge with you.
Please view the Events/Dates page for upcoming workshops and important deadlines. More workshops will be announced after I finalize our schedule. We will generally meet on Tuesdays after school, typically starting around 5:00p.m.. We may have workshops on other days, depending upon schedule and availability. Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate.
